SW HILLS
2022

Our goal for this urban lot was to break up an already small yard into a series of programmed spaces, while also giving the client something softer than a concrete slab and lawn. The interior of our client's home was more minimalistic than most, and we wanted to carry similar blocking into the landscape by restraining the desire of introducing too many materials & plant species. Color tones were also neutralized across both the built and natural elements. Overall, I feel this was a successful commission despite the dense canopy cover which has stunted the growth of certain species we hoped would do OK in a transitional environment. But hey, that's the beauty of a garden. They evolve.

Construction should've gone quicker, but rains extending into the late spring in addition to 100 years worth of layered patios beneath the surface extended our timeline a few weeks. Solid stone walls were erected to match the existing masonry and provide a safer transition between spaces for two young kids. Ipe decking and Castohn pavers blend with crushed gravel paths and steel accents.
