TALIESEN PARK

An urban lot backed by a wooded park was given new breath, to come alive beneath the canopy of grand Douglas Firs. Their verticality inspired the rhythm of the space, going against the grain and playing with layers of horizontal lines. Like the trail on the parkside, a main walkway acts as a guide through the courtyard, with allees of Vine Maples along raised walls, standing as vertical markers to invite the park into the space and in turn, extend the space into its greater context. As an intermediate area between the park and an original Rummer bungalow, the courtyard seeks to marry the two. Its shape borrows from the 1970s mid century modern architecture, as a space stemming from a series of lines that jut and pinch as it follows the length of the house.
