GLENOAKS RESIDENCE
2024
We were commissioned for this project by a lovely couple with a young daughter. The house was recently purchased and they were wrapping up construction of an ADU in a once was garage. Remaining was a 1/8 acre of dirt, an olive tree in memoriam of the previous owner, two 300 year old oaks and 2500 sqft of concrete.
Our programming had many facets, but the primary goals were to divide the back yard into two private spaces, re-work the driveway, storage space, and fire preventative planting to get the insurance companies off our clients' backs. We worked through the design and budgets for a number of months, and with a lot of trust we proceeded with what you see photographed below.
For the sake of sustainability and budget, we re-used 1,100 sqft of concrete for all the hardscape and walls throughout the property. Three steel pergolas were fabricated and erected, of which the front wooden structure was removed and reconstructed piece by piece not to disturb the existing 40 year old trumpet vine. Three aluminum sheds, as well as aluminum fencing installed. Lush understory, edible garden and native creeping fescue lawns alongside a beautiful crushed gravel driveway.
