WESTLAKE VILLAGE
Completed May, 2024

Set amongst the suburban sprawl of Los Angeles, our client's goal was to transform her concrete and sod ridden yard into a wild escape. Our intent was to define rooms within the consistently flat site, using the small amount of topography change to place a destination seating area. The rise in elevation was enough to capture views of the surrounding mountain range when seated within the space. An experience our client's had yet to witness.

The relationship cultivated between this client was ideal, as we had her trust to explore ideas outside the norm. A sculptural trellis frames views of a lush meadow and mature rosemary sitting outside the office where our client spends most of her day. It will be years before this garden sits in it's full glory as a number of specimen trees were planted to provide shade from the extreme summer heat.

This native garden has attracted dozens of animal species and is in a constant buzz of butterflies, bees and hummingbirds.
